1996 Fleet Report for Bow Lake Lightning Fleet #493

The Bow Lake Lightning series was an eight race contest spanning a period from July, 6 to August, 24th. The festivities concluded with the Bow Lake "One Day" regatta, an invitational regatta on September 14.

The local fleet had one postponement due to the remnants of Hurricane Bertha with winds high enough to cause postponements on both Saturday and Sunday. The race was made up on the following weekend when the race committee ran back to back races on Saturday.

Generally, moderate winds made for good racing all season without problems. A variety of courses were run to try to make the regatta as interesting as possible.

The series was culminated with a well attended wrap up party on August 27th with great food and drink contributed by fleet members and the Race Committee.

The big wrap up Bow Lake "One Day" Regatta was highly anticipated by the fleet especially the wives who had planned a great feast without any idea of how many boats would show up Saturday morning. There were a few finger nails munched as day break proved gloomy and rain threatened. Then out of the gloom boats started to arrive. A breath of relief was heard. Food, Beverages and Trophies would indeed not be wasted.

The 8 Race Bow Lake "Bob Evans" Regatta found Ned Hinds the fleet champion with Bob Shapiro Runner up and Mike Lindh third.

The Bow Lake "one Day" was dominated by a dual between Bill Fastiggi from Lake Champlain and George Deyette from Lake Massabesic with Fastiggi the ultimate winner. Nick Mercier from Lake Massabesic was third.

A great season was had by all and we look forward to the 1997 season with great enthusiasm.
